Oh yes, just RD$700 million more and they “say” it will be finished. On a 3.7 kilometer stretch there will be five footbridges, an underpass and a “micro-tunnel” will be built. Work on the highway that leads to the east from Santo Domingo will see workmen from the San Vicente de Paul Avenue to the Juan Carlos I bridge. Osoria & Associates have replaced the Consorcio Elsamex, S.A. Mapek, who had their contract rescinded last December by the Ministry of Public Works. Nicolas Paulino, one of the engineers working on the project, told El Caribe reporters that the work had been restarted at the beginning of April after the Ministry of Public Works had paid a 10% advance on the total job. The goal is to finish the work by August 2005. Work will also be carried out on the north and south parallel roads as well as 450 meters of water pipes. Also on the agenda is an overpass with three ramps, a bridge over a cavern and a small 170-meter tunnel to carry off rainwater. The company was chosen sans tender.
