La Romana escaped convicts re-arrested

The Police report five of eight convicts that escaped from the police station cells in La Romana on Monday morning, 23 January 2017, have been re-captured.

Authorities found four of escapees in scrubland and yesterday morning, 24 January,

Julio Cesar Mercedes (Chapulo), handed himself in, in the company of human rights defenders.

Those re-arrested were Leivison Inirio de Jesus (Blady), aged 20; Roosevelt Leandry Torres Honorio (Mi Pichi), 19; Brayan Napoleon Valerio, 20 and Joel Francis, aged 29.

The group escaped from jail after having cut through the cell bars with a hacksaw.

Still on the run are Raul Aquino del Rosario, Luis Enrique Marte and David Guerrero Nelly aka David Guerrero Cabral. The latter was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, having been accused of involvement in the death of businessman Ramon Galvez Bastado (Moreno) in the municipality of Villa Hermosa in September 2016.
