World and Olympic champion Felix Sanchez, running in the stadium recently re-named in his honor, easily won the premiere event of the night, the 400 meter hurdles, defeating Panamanian Bayano Kamani. The “Felix Sanchez Invitational Track Meet” featured top ranked runners and jumpers from all over the world in a spectacle Dominicans never had the chance to see before. Sanchez won in 48:40. Also featured, was Pan American champion in the women’s high jump, Juana Arrendel, who won her event without much trouble. Vice-President Rafael Alburquerque presided over the opening ceremonies, accompanied by Sports Minister, Jay Payano.
