Dissident PRD senator, Tonty Rutinel (PRD-Santo Domingo) accused former President Hipolito Mejia of spending RD$23 billion through the 14-01 bank account when only RD$8 billion had been allotted in the budget. He said that when these anomalies are proven, he will ask the Senate to replace the members of the Chamber of Accounts, the organization in charge of auditing government, who he says should have been replaced long time ago. He accused the Chamber of Accounts of hiding the results of the audits on the past administration of President Hipolito Mejia, in an attempt to coverup for those responsible for the detected irregularities. He said that of the 108 audits carried out by the Chamber of Accounts, six show irregularities and despite this the chamber has not issued a report.
As reported in Listin Diario, Rutinel said he took the information to Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito, because he considers Dominguez a serious government officer. Attorney General Dominguez said he would investigate the complaint.
