Fumigating pilot dies in crash

José Ernesto Rosario, a pilot who was conducting aerial spraying of fields in Villa Tapia, Hermanas Mirabal province (Salcedo), died from severe injuries received when his plane crashed on Saturday, 4 March 2017. Preliminary reports from the director of the Commission for Investigation of Aviation Accidents (CIAA), Colonel Emmanuel Souffront Tamayo indicate the crash occurred when the single engine craft became tangled in cables of a telecom antenna in the area.

Rosario was a former Air Force pilot. He was the sole occupant of the air craft. Souffront Tamayo called for an in depth investigation into the accident.

Shortly after the death of the pilot, it was known that his mother, Guillermina Álvarez, who was terminally ill, also died. The news story does not indicate if the mother had been told about the death of her son.
