The president of the Council of Economic Advisors of the Executive Branch, Julio Ortega Tous favors the implementation of austere fiscal policies, limiting foreign debt taking in government, and reducing the size of government to favor increased private participation in the economy. He said these were the elements that led to growth between 1991-2000. He said that the size of the Dominican state restricts the productive sector. He made his statements speaking during a talk on “Evaluation and Expectations for Economic Growth from the Perspective of the Government.” He also mentioned that tax evasion has not allowed to take full advantage of the successive tax reforms carried out by the government.
