Diario Libre reports that the government has purchased RD$13 million worth of equipment that will be used to reinforce security controls at national airports and ports. Armed Forces Minister Admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez, explained that the equipment had been used during the 2003 Panamerican Games and was sold to the government at 50% of its real cost. He said the equipment was going to be shipped back to the company that had used it when the proposal was received by the Armed Forces and approved by President Fernandez. The equipment includes 5 X-ray machines, 75 metal arcs, and 98 arms and metal detectors.
