DR to host 2006 OAS General Assembly

El Caribe reports that the 35th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) has approved the proposal to hold next year’s assembly in the Dominican Republic. The foreign ministers of the 34 member countries approved the initiative as the last point in the agenda in Monday’s plenary session, held in the Conference Center of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While addressing the assembly, US President George W. Bush called on his nation’s Congress to approve the DR-CAFTA agreement, describing it as a signal of the United States’ commitment to democracy and prosperity for the hemisphere.
