17-year old Jimmy Hernández, son of a physical education professor, was pronounced dead after competing in a motorcycle race in Loma de Cabrera on the border with Haiti. He died while being transported by ambulance to a hospital in Santiago. The person who accompanied Hernandez was injured in the incident but is expected to recover.
Witnesses say the accident occurred during a motorcycle race in the community of Mariano Cestero on the road section known as La Recta (the straight road stretch).
