On US approval of DR-CAFTA

Dominican ambassador in Washington, Flavio Dario Espinal, believes that many sectors favor the DR-CAFTA agreement between Central America and the DR with the US. El Caribe reports that in the upcoming days the US Congress is going to perform a “drill” to measure the possibilities of implementing the agreement. Hugo Rivera, from the Free Trade Agreement Coalition explained that on 14 June, US congressmen would determine if the agreement’s application mechanisms are feasible. Espinal stated that there is a favorable “momentum” for the DR-CAFTA. Prominent figures such as the presidents of the World Bank (WB) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and several former secretaries of state, both democrats and republicans, have requested the approval of the agreement.
