Riu hotels back in operation

The three Riu chain hotels operating in the Maimon, Puerto Plata area, Mambo, Merengue and Bachata reopened today, after a week-long closure from 8 to 15 June. The Listin Diario reports that the hotels were closed to effectively combat the Norwalk virus that was reportedly brought to the hotel in December by Canadian tourists, but continued to affect future guests at the hotel, causing gastrointestinal illnesses. Clients were transferred to other hotels and no new arrivals were accepted during the week. The official reason given for the closure was “renovations.”
