In the first round of the Pan American Volleyball Cup, the Dominican Republic team won Pool A and earned its right to play in the Grand Prix scheduled for Germany, Japan and Italy next year. The DR defeated Brazil in five sets. The DR team won the first two games, but lost the second two, to defeat the Brazilians in a final set. In Pool B, Cuba defeated the US to also secure a place in the 2006 World Grand Prix.
