
The Ministry of the Environment has begun the process of restoring the forests in Valle Nuevo after banning farming in the region, as established in resolution 14-2016.
A press release from the Ministry of Environment states that 10,000 pine trees, and green ebony trees along with other varieties of trees have been planted on land that had been previously farmed. The effort seeks to regenerate the woodland. This is a follow-up to a first phase of the operation when the Ministry removed irrigation pipes that had provided water to the evicted farms.
