President travels to Venezuela

President Leonel Fernandez is traveling to Puerto de la Cruz, Venezuela tomorrow to attend a meeting with President Hugo Chavez and other Caribbean heads of state, in which petroleum will be the main item on the agenda. This “Petro-Caribbean Summit” aims to form an energy alliance in the Caribbean, in response to the recent oil price increases on the international market. Fernandez leaves on Wednesday and is due to return on Thursday. The Presidency’s Information, Press and Publicity Director, Rafael Nunez stated that the DR and other countries that do not produce petroleum are facing serious challenges at a time when the price of crude oil has started selling for more that US$60 per barrel on the international market.
