Economist calls for investments in Haiti

Economist Frank Tejada comments in an op-ed piece in El Caribe newspaper today that the number one problem of the Dominican republic today is the penetration of illegal Haitians. In his opinion, this makes urgent a move to organize the development of Haiti. In his opinion, the Dominican government needs to lead this movement and require of France, Canada and the United States the creation of a program for investments on the Haitian side of the border given that the DR cannot maintain 8.4 million Haitians. He writes today that the Dominican government has convened the Migration Council to analyze the situation, but an economic development plan, with donations from the G7 and financing from international organizations such as the World Bank and the Interamerican Development Bank is necessary. He also urges for a trustworthy execution unit to avoid that the funding disappear. “Democracy does not work, there, rather only chaos,” he writes.
