The Armed Forces has carried out a second surprise crackdown (Operation Centella) in major Dominican cities. Occupants of vehicles were frisked in search of illegally-held guns. The measure is part of government actions to reduce crime in the DR. The searches caused bottlenecks yesterday evening on the Las Americas and Duarte Highways.

The Dominican Association of Gasoline Stations, Anadegas, will no longer accept credit cards for gasoline and diesel at gas stations. The organization says that the fees charged by the credit card companies are too high. They say the companies were charging them RD$0.95 per gallon of gasoline sold.
