The Dominican Republic has been holding talks with the Spanish authorities to agree that Air Europe may begin daily flights to Madrid and other Spanish cities from the Dominican Republic. Regular flights to Spain by Air Europe would bring competition to the route. The Madrid-Santo Domingo sector is at presently only served by Iberia.

Some 10 Dominican companies have already confirmed they will be participating with the Ministry of Tourism in the World Travel Fair ’96 to be held in Japan, from 6-8 December. The National Hotel & Restaurant Association and the Tourism Promotion Council have announced the publication of an insertion about the country, “The Dominican Republic Vacation Planner”, in the Gold Book winter directory. The Minister of Tourism, Felix Jiménez, has announced that he will travel to Germany this week. He will be accompanied by Magaly Toribio, director of promotion for the Ministry. He said they will meet with tour operators and explore the possibility of increasing the number of visitors coming for ecotourism holidays.

A new Philatelic Museum has been opened at the Central Bank. Dominican stamps dating back to 1865 are on display. One issue on show commemorates the 100th anniversary of Dominican stamps.
