Port wall from Trujillo time to be destroyed

Minister of Culture Tony Raful announced the tumbling down of the high wall that separates the Colonial City edifices from the Avenida del Puerto in the Port of Santo Domingo area. The wall was built in the 40s. Raful is in favor of its destruction that he says will result in a better view of the colonial period monuments. He also announced the Museum of the Arms will be fitted in the Fortaleza Ozama. He said that studies are under way for the construction of an important cultural center in Puerto Plata’s closed chocolate factory. (7 December 2000)
