Diario Libre reports on the practice of deputies voting on behalf of absent deputies. This is an illegal procedure since deputies are not permitted to delegate their votes. Diario Libre reports that in yesterday’s session, PLD deputy Victor Soto voted on numerous occasions for an absent colleague. The newspaper points out that the deputies have recently been involved in scandal upon scandal. Scandals that have resulted in no penalties are the improper use of the VIP hall at Las Americas Airport, the case of a deputy who tried to help a relative travel with a stolen US passport and several cases of deputies not meeting the monthly maintenance of their children.
