Judge appeals against remand terms

Yesterday, Monday 28 December 2015, suspended judge Awilda Reyes Beltre submitted an appeal against her three-month preventative custody sentence currently being served in Najayo jail in San Cristobal. She was sent to jail by National District Judge Ramon Horacio Gonzalez and is being held in a maximum-security cell under 24/7 guard. She is accused of irregularities in rulings issued by her penal court.

Another judge, Francisco Arias Valera, is also expected to appeal his remand sentence for allegedly heading a network of judges who negotiated with convicted felons over their sentencing.
