The public health authorities announced the government has included Dexamethasone in the local authorized protocol for treatment of patients in advanced phases of Covid-19.
“All the hospitals in the country are being supplied with the drug, of which we have sufficient quantities to meet the demand,” said the medical advisor to the Executive Branch, Dr. Jorge Marte Baez of the High Commission for the Prevention of Coronavirus. The pharmaceutical is especially useful in advanced phases of the disease.
Dexamethasone belongs to the family of corticosteroids, which have anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive and anti-allergic properties. These drugs are essential in the management of pathologies such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), acute respiratory distress, bronchopulmonary, nasal, skin and eye allergies.
