Medina revokes permission to build in the Cotubanamá National Park

In one of his last decrees, President Danilo Medina annulled the permit for the construction of a hotel in the Cotubanamá National Park. President Medina’s presidency ends on Sunday, 16 August 2020. Medina issued Decree 315-20, ordering the Ministry of Environment to revoke the Environmental Permit 3771-19. The construction of an ecological resort had been authorized for the Spanish company, Globalia. Globalia owns Air Europa.

Earlier, the Superior Administrative Court (TSA) had ordered the suspension of construction works at the site located within the Guaraguao-Punta Catuano recreational area of the Cotubanamá National Park (Parque del Este).

Environmentalists and former environment ministers contested the construction.
