
The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #194 reports 234 cases of persons testing positive to PCR tests over the past 24 hours. The 24-hour positivity rate is 14.54%, and the 4-week positivity rate is 13.18% and declining.
There are 22,801 active cases as of the 28 September deadline. The active cases are 345 fewer than on the previous day. The active cases have been steadily declining.
The number of daily confirmed cases has kept well under 500 for the first time in the past seven days. The health ministry announced the processing of 1,609 first PCR tests in time for the Monday, 28 September deadline. The 14-day average for first PCR tests is now at 3,695 PCR tests. The Ministry of Public Health says the demand for PCR tests has declined. PCR tests are now readily available at 15 public hospitals nationwide.
Nevertheless, as evidenced internationally, local epidemiologists alert that the spread of the virus comes and goes. This situation is why the Ministry of Public Health continues to recommend keeping a curfew and preventive measures. The new curfew is in effect from Monday, 28 September to 17 October 2020 and is 9pm to 5am Monday to Friday, and 7pm to 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.
As per Bulletin #194, with the deadline of 28 September 2020, the Ministry of Public Health has registered 111,900 confirmed cases since the first case on 1 March 2020.
The number of deaths is 2,101, including three deaths recorded and one occurring in the past 24 hours. In a population of more than 10 million, the fatality rate is 1.88% over the past four weeks. The fatality rate per 1M inhabitants is 201.08. The Ministry of Public Health reports that the average 1M inhabitants’ fatality rate for the Americas is 529.
Worldometer lists the 1M deaths per inhabitant rate for Spain at 676, the United States at 635, France 488, Colombia 503, Canada at 246 and the Dominican Republic at 193.
The Ministry of Public Health report indicates that 23% of Covid-19 hospital beds are occupied (782 of 3,451 total available). 35% of the intensive care units for Covid-19 are occupied (185 of 556 beds). Health Minister Plutarco Arias says that the emphasis is on detecting the cases early on, so fewer persons require hospitalization.

Haiti reports 8,740 confirmed cases and 227 deaths, for the 28 September 2020 deadline.
In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is now ranked 11th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Canada, Ecuador and Bolivia.
