The Vuelta Ciclística Independencia Nacional, the leading cycling race, is on as scheduled for 22 to 28 February 2021, as reported in Diario Libre. The Dominican Federation of Cycling president, Jorge Blas said the event will be celebrated under a sanitary bubble.
He said details are still being worked out and it could be that the athletes overnight in Santo Domingo or in a resort in Punta Cana. This will vary the stages of the race. The race that is now in its 42nd year traditionally takes the participants on a tour of the entire country.
Blas said they are looking at holding the event in the East, so the athletes can then overnight at a resort in the area.
He said six to eight international teams and around ten from the Dominican Republic could participate this year. The number of international teams in the past has reached 25.
