Román E. Caamaño, director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), says that the Dominican Republic has one of the highest rates of aviation recovery in the world. Caamaño highlighted that the country already has restored flights with 32 international airports.
On a supervisory tour of the Punta Cana International Airport, Caamaño observed that at that terminal alone, the weekly average of flights is already up to 220, with more flights expected to resume in April. Caamaño said this means government efforts are bearing expected fruits.
The Punta Cana airport is currently receiving flights from the United States, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Peru, Panama, Argentina and Colombia.
The government official visited Punta Cana to continue his tours of the country’s main airports. Caamaño had previously visited the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata and the International Airport of La Romana.
During the Punta Cana tour, he was accompanied by several directors of the IDAC, and was received by the director of Operations of the Punta Cana International Airport, Giovanni Rainieri, the supervisor of Air Navigation Services, Luis Leonardo and the administrative coordinator, Emmanuel Alvarez.
The visit to this terminal included the administrative offices’ supervision, the Control Center, the Control Tower, and the GPS Signal Augmentation System. This system allows aircraft to land using only satellite signals with a level of precision that allows an error of only one meter.
