UNICEF prepares telethon to back in programs in the DR

The office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) in the Dominican Republic announced on Thursday, 13 May 2021 that it will stage a telethon on 13 June to secure funding for its programs in the DR. The telethon, “Together for Children,” is held to raise funds for programs that seek to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, improve the quality of education and promote the return to in-person learning for all students in a safe manner. Unicef also carries out programs to prevent violence against children, detect and treat acute child malnutrition, and reduce adolescent pregnancy and early unions of girls with adults in the Dominican Republic.

In a press release, the Unicef representative in the country, Rosa Elcarte pointed out that because of the pandemic, the agency has had to detour much of its funding to respond to the health emergency. She called on the Dominican society to donate to the causes on 13 June 2021.
