Husband of PRM deputy accused of drug trafficking and money laundering

The Specialized Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prosecutor’s Office and the La Vega Prosecutor’s Office filed indictments against Miguel Arturo López Florencio, alias Miky López, and four other members of a criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking. Miky López is married to ruling Modern Revolutionary Party deputy Amalia Pilarte (PRM-La Vega).

Along with López, his two sons, Miguel Arturo López Pilarte and José Miguel López Pilarte, as well as Ada María Pilarte and José Antonio Román, and the companies Auto Crédito Selecto, SRL, Servi Crédito Selecto, SRL, Agropecuaria Gloria Ivette, SRL and Inmobiliaria Gloria Ivette, SRL, are accused of complicity in the criminal network.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office indictment, all the abovementioned companies are front and/or shell companies, whose operations disguised the earning of billions of pesos and dollars obtained from drug trafficking activities in the national financial system.

The law enforcement authorities are on the trail of extradited Pablo Antonio Martínez Javier, convicted in the United States in 2009 for drug trafficking, who is accused of participating in the criminal network and who remains at large.

The head of the Specialized Anti-Money Laundering Prosecutor’s Office, Luis González, and the chief prosecutor of La Vega, Aura Luz García, together with a team of prosecutors, presented the case file in court on 14 June 2021.

According to the criminal prosecution, this criminal organization moved more than two billion pesos from 2007 to 2019 in local bank transactions.

The defendants are charged with violating Law 155-17 on Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism and the previous law on this matter, Law 72-02. They also infringed Tax Regime Law 11-92 and Monetary and Financial Law 183-02.

As part of the investigation, 17 luxury properties were seized in the National District and the provinces of La Vega, Puerto Plata, Espaillat and La Romana.
