Dominicans in Home Run Derby and All Star Game

In the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby leading to the All Star Game, Dominican Juan Soto slammed a record-setting 520-foot blast, a one-minute tiebreaker and a three-swing swing-off. It was Soto’s first participation in a Home Run Derby.

Major League Baseball reported that the 22-year-old left fielder had entered the competition as the No. 8 seed with 11 home runs in 2021, and was the underdog for the first time in his young career. Soto was paired against the No. 1-seeded, two-way, power-hitting pitcher Shohei Ohtani of the Angels, who also happened to be the Major League leader in homers at the break (33).

Blue Jays Vladimir Guerrero Jr (First Base) and Red Sox Rafael Devers (Third Base) were chosen as part of the American League All-Star Game starters. For the National League, Fernando Tatis Jr (Short Stop) was selected.

The All Star Game will take place on 13 July 2021 in the Coors Field in Denver, Colorado.
