First cruise ship docks in La Romana Port

Carnival Horizon docked in La Romana. The port had closed in March 2020 after confirming the first cases of Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic. Amber Cove in Puerto Plata last week also received its first cruise ship, a Carnival ship.

As reported in El Caribe, passengers were received by executives of Central Romana, the owner of the port and the Romana-Bayahibe Hotel Association. The governor of La Romana, Jacqueline Fernandez was also there. Also welcoming the tourists were Andrés Dechamps, provincial director of tourism, Gleni Soliver, community liaison of the Ministry of Tourism, Yaina Morales, deputy regional director of tourism, Gidel Cedeño, Frank Ortiz, director of Customs Agency, Yokasta Rodríguez, provincial director of the Port Authority, General Minoru Matsunaga, director of the Tourism Police (Politur), among others.

According to the authorities, the cruise ship operates at 60% capacity, and arrived with 2,650 tourists and 1,391 crew members.
