Is it time to vaccinate those 6 to 11?

Will the Dominican Republic follow in the footsteps of Chile. The Dominican Republic right now has a surplus of vaccines that could well be used to vaccinate school children.

As reported, in Chile, 30,000 children ages 6 to 11 years were vaccinated in their schools on the first day of early child vaccinating, this past 28 September 2021. The public health authorities of Chile approved the use of the Sinovac vaccine for all in school.

The Chilean government is also promoting a booster shot for those older than 55 years or having vulnerabilities. The decision coincided with announcing the end to curfew and the national state of emergency in Chile that expires on 30 September 2021.

In the Dominican Republic, there is a surplus of Sinovac and Pfizer vaccines. The government has yet to decide on the vaccinating of young children.

Vice President Raquel Peña, the head of the Health Cabinet, told Hoy that the decision to vaccinate younger children is still under study.

The National State of Emergency in the Dominican Republic expires on 11 October 2021.
