Dominican fans will be able to see Albert Pujols in action when he dons the Escogido Lions uniform in the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball League. He is expected to play on Friday, 29 October 2021.
Pujols, 41, is a future first-ballot Cooperstown Hall of Famer. Pujols has 679 career homers. Media reports that he dreams of reaching the landmark of becoming just the fourth player in MLB to reach 700 homers but needs to play in the next MLB season.
“I think Albert can do whatever he wants to do and if he wants to play next year he’s certainly going to be a really good contributor to whatever ball club,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said during the National League Championship Series.
The Dominican Professional Baseball League (Lidom) announced on Thursday, 28 October 2021, that Santo Domingo-born slugger had been traded from the Gigantes del Cibao to the Leones del Escogido, a capital city team. Pujols is expected to play in Santo Domingo’s Quisqueya-Juan Marichal Ball Park on Friday, 29 October 2021.
