MLB baseball stars are playing this year in the Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship. The games are taking place in Santo Domingo (Quisqueya-Juan Marichal Ball Park), San Pedro de Macorís (Tetelo Vargas Ball Park), Santiago (Cibao Ball Park), La Romana (Francisco Micheli Ball Park) and San Francisco de Macorís (Julián Javier Ball Park). Most games start early at 7pm.
Robinson Canó starts playing on Wednesday, 10 November 2021 with the Estrellas Orientales, the San Pedro de Macorís team. Tourists staying in Juan Dolio can easily watch a game at the Tetelo Vargas ball park in San Pedro de Macoris. Games start at 7pm. A native of San Pedro de Macorís, Canó has played in the MLB with the New York Yankees from 2005 to 2013, and was part of the Yankees World Series champion team in 2009.
He then played for the Seattle Mariners from 2014 to 2018, when he was traded to the New York Mets. Cano recorded 1,695 hits in the 2010s; this figure is the highest number of hits recorded by any major league player during that decade. He is an eight-time MLB All-Star, a five-time Silver Slugger Award winner, and a two-time Gold Glove Award winner. Cano is also the 2017 All-Star Game MVP and the 2011 Home Run Derby winner.
Canó is remembered for “platano power,” that he harnessed to lead the Dominican team to win the 2013 World Baseball Classic (WBC) tournament. He was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player Award (MVP).
And fans of Albert Pujols, the Cardinals then Dodgers star player, can watch him go for bat in the Dominican Professional Baseball League for the Escogido Lions. Pujols is a six-time Silver Slugger who has twice led the NL in home runs, and he has also led the NL once each in batting average, doubles, and RBIs.
Wikipedia sums his career up explaining that with 14 seasons of 100 or more RBIs, he is one of only five players in MLB history to have topped 2,000 RBIs in his career, surpassing Alex Rodriguez for third place on the official all-time list during the 2020 season. In 2018, Pujols collected his 3,000th career hit, becoming the 32nd player in MLB history to reach that milestone. Pujols also became the fourth player to amass 3,000 hits and 600 home runs, joining Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Alex Rodriguez.
