Mangu is in the Royal Academy of the Spanish language

Mangú is served with fried cheese, salami, egg and avocado.

The Real Academia de la Lengua Española officially registered the word “mangú,” for the popular mashed plantain dish typical of the Dominican Republic on 16 December 2021. The RAE says the word is used in the United States, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The definition is: “Mashed boiled green plantains with oil or butter.”

Jumbo stores in the Dominican Republic had campaigned with the Dominican Language Academy to include the word.
