A report on the poor shape of the resting place of the Fathers of the Nation in Independence Park published in Diario Libre on 1 January 2022 motivated the authorities to get their act together. The Puerta de El Conde, the main entrance to the Mausoleum where the remains of Juan Pablo Duarte, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez and Matías Ramón Mella are buried, is now illuminated.
In a follow-up on 3 March, Diario Libre reports on the lighting of the monument and improvements in general.
Diario Libre reported that the Joint Metropolitan Command of the Armed Forces (Cocom), which is in charge of the area, and the (Cocom), which is in charge of the space, and an energy company replaced light bulbs and part of the wiring.
A brigade checked all the installations and replaced the burned out or expired bulbs, and lamps with higher amperage and lighting were placed. The problem was supposedly caused by leaks that affected the electrical wiring.
