I was told that the path to residency now is going to cost an additional $100 (above and beyond the money already paid) because of "insurance warranty to pay the cost of repatriation in case of illness emergency".
Can anyone tell me exactly what in the **** this is???
thanks

The new regulation differs from the procedure we know, the main difference is that you can get your permanent residency only if you had your temporary residency for five years. That means you have to renew your temporary residency four times before you can apply for the permanent residency.
I don't know if they apply the new rules already but I read in the newspaper that they started to enforce the new regulation since June 1st this year.

Does this mean a 5 year wait to get a firearm?

It sounds like anyone interested in getting a firearm would have to wait 5 years to get one under the new 5 year temporary residency rules.
