This is how the construction of one of the largest hotel in the Republic Dominican and Caribbean is taking place, "Moon Palace Punta Cana" located 500 meters inland from the shore of the sea. It will have 2,149 rooms spread over two 18-story towers that will occupy only 6% of the total land of the property, The gigantic work will host two main towers and will have 8,000 m2 per level. A surface 120ha, its design is developed entirely with BIM methodology, in a collaborative project that more than 10 specialized companies are involved and highly recognized, the complex is built with a higher investment of USD$600 million, which will generate around 5,000 jobs during its construction and more than 4,000 permanent jobs when it enters operation, 95% occupied by Dominicans. Now I know what that is I was looking at from my balcony a few weeks ago when I was staying at Melia. Might have to check it out when finished. Melia has certainly gone downhill since the new owner took over.

All that space and they decide to huddle everyone in on top of each other. What's the logic behind this?

The logic is this is a totally different hotel than any other in PC. It is basically a high rise that could never be built here before. That leaves a ALL that room for activities, restaurants, bars, etc. And what is the matter in staying in an elegant high rise anyway?

Believe me this guy knows what he is doing. It will be the best hotel in the DR...........

I think the design makes a lot of sense.
The idea is to sleep at night.
Activities during the day.
Lots of land for that.
Genius.

It also show how market conditions causes capital to be moved around and used in creative ways to best deploy it.
I hope they accept BTC and take things to a completely new level in the Dominican Republic.

yes I agree with you he definitely knows what he's doing but I have to tell you this they are over building in the Punta Cana area too many new places too many new apartments .

I was told the other day that a price smart will never happen in the Punta Cana area because Punta Cana Mafia has too much invested in the supermarkets here and they will not permit it and if you ask me a price smart would make an absolute killing here

This project was first announced several years ago and ground was broken under the last administration in 2018.

Since then, it has been expanded to 3,300 rooms.

For decades, nothing over three stories tall could be built in the east. Personally, I preferred it that way. This will begin to change the landscape and, in my opinion, not for the better.

The rise of the southwest may become the new place to get away…..and relax.

Not far behind is an inter island air service that might succeed where the others have failed.

They will need a cement mixer truck to fill the "all you can eat" mash potato buffet.

The inter island airline Playa mentioned strikes me as a good idea

Can’t quite plumb the level of activity though

A concern for this poster is the weakness of the water infrastructure to support this unrestrained growth in the eastern tourist zone. There are few rivers, they are small, having dubious abilities to supply sustainable water distribution to the area. The fresh (sweet) water table of the zone for wells (pozos) is falling.

I remember the subject being raised years go when there were half as many hotels.

PC and the areas nearby are becoming victims of their own success.

I cannot imagine going on vacation and not having issues with a resort of that size. If you are looking to find some peace and quiet ...............this will definitely not be the place.......but you will have perhaps the coveted "ocean view." It appears they will be a premium resort...or at least requesting premium pricing.

On a more important safety note, a fire in one of those towers could be catastrophic. My personal rule is no higher than the 4th floor in any hotel.....as that is about the top reach of any firefighting ladder equipment.......if they have such equipment nearby.
