you are absolutely delusional, and beyond ridiculous. YOU are the one who believes that operating honestly in your environment is fine, but it is a case of inflicting morality upon others to act honestly in the DR. that has got to be the most condescending nonsense i have ever heard. i introduced the idea of spousal abuse to draw a parallel, in case it escapes your perception. the thrust of your argument is that you operate with certain standards, which are admirable, in your country, but when in Rome, you should act like the Romans.

that is the most condescending drivel i have ever heard. tell you what; stop trying to assert, clumsily, that Dominicans have a right to be dishonest without their moral betters trying to inflict decency upon them. to that end, you believe you should act like them. to paraphrase you, not many Dominicans would chase you down the street to give you change. since that is the nature of Dominicans, then by you doing the opposite, you are trying to inflict your morality on them. talking about generalizations!!

quit while you are behind.

I am not the one trying to change Dominican culture and impose my standards on them like you are, I have no right to do that and neither do you as you are not Dominican, that has to come from them. MY standards may have changed to fit in with them, I do not try to make them fit in with me, as it would appear you prefer.

What the hell spousal abuse has to do with this thread eludes me, but as you mention it, Spousal abuse is a serious problem worldwide, not just here, and that is for the people of the country, police and courts to address. Not you, trying to make EVERYONE live by your rules, as you know nothing about any individual case. As in all things, each case must be taken in context with it's own merit.
Just to prove my point... how would you know if this 'beating' was or was not a part of a couples sex life and both parties consented and gained enjoyment from it? There are a lot of strange people in this world! Answer...you don't, so don't go making sweeping statements that EVERYONE should live by whatever standards you may or may not hold! By doing so just shows you to be arrogant, just because other people 'dare' to live by their own standards, however low or high they may be.

To get back on topic....The OP made his decision, and if he is happy that his actions were warranted, then who are you to tell him he was wrong? You were not there and witnessed nothing! IF he broke the law, then that is a matter for the judicial system, not YOUR morals!!!

I never have seen ice cream locked up. Condoms, yes, they lock those up at the local Wal*Mart here in Miami, along with the pregnancy tests. I suppose people steal them. Ice cream, usually is safe from those who do not bring their own scoop everywhere I have been. But perhaps this is a special ice cream place.

I agree that clerks that yammer on the phone are a pain. I have a similar problem when I go to order auto parts: I have to wait there, money in my hand, while the clerk answers ten or twelve phone calls. I have seen a fellow customer jump the cue by calling the clerk in front of him.

My DR prescribed furosemide (Lasix) for me, so I know about having to pee while waiting in line.

Let say you own a store in a very humid climate like Miami and you have an ice cream case that does not have a door that SHUTS TIGHTLY automatically and a child buy a pushup and forget to shut the door. What do you think will happen to a lot of your inventory if people forget to shut the door??? You would be throwing away a lot of money because once ice cream melts and lose the shape it cannot be sold.

The locks are so the doors are always kept tight and closed.

i had a question, when paying 200 peso for something that costs 119 peso are you supposed to get 1881 peso back???

well, it happened today to me in la sirena, girl had the time of her life talking to her co-workers, she made me think i was bothering her.

i gave her the 200 bill, i was minding my bb and then she wrote that i gave 2000 and man..

but what would you do?

a) keep the money also like i did

b) let her know that she made a mistake and be honest

If I noticed it, I'd tell her right away. I've had it happen to me in five or six different countries.

that is some bizarre reasoning. so, if you were raised in a household wherein your parents taught you that spousal abuse was fundamentally wrong, you could come to the DR, beat the crap out of your wife, and say "when in Rome..."

I do not normally post on this forum, however I do read it on a frequent basis. The change in my behaviour is my disgust and anger at the above post and his further comments directed at another poster.

This thread was for the most part fairly lighthearted with some serious comments thrown in, until the above.

By what right do you have to mention the very serious and emotive subject of spousal abuse in this context. I agree it is a monumental problem throughout the world and deserves serious discussion and attention. What I do not agree with is your use of this subject to further your own sense of self importance and belittling the suffering of millions of women, men (yes men get abused too) and by extension their families for your own personal gain. This issue has nothing to do with the content of this thread so therefore should not have been mentioned.

If you or anyone you have known have been on the receiving end of this abuse you would not be using the subject for your own nefarious ends. So I suggest that you use your somewhat enlarged ego and think about what you are saying in the context of the discussion.

Gorgon is exactly right and his example serves the purpose. No need to be so sensitive on the subject.

try talking to someone who has been on the receiving end of such a relationship and ask how they feel about their experience being used in this context

Cookie, I believe the thread was about an incident at a store and the OP got back too much change. Maybe you should start a thread about domestic violence or steroids in baseball.
Anyway, did you hear about the woman with two black eyes, ....she had to be told twice.

Im not the one who bought up the subject of domestic violence, I just argued that this was not the place to discuss it in this thread

slycookie, no one is trivializing spousal abuse. Someone made a comment about 'accepting things as they are in DR', and gorgon was, I believe, actually refuting that with his example.

Either way, we're way off the original topic, and I think by now everyone has had their say regarding "wrong change" in DR.

Caso cerrado.
