Hi Eddy, Banco Leon and Banco Popular BOTH offer 16% Interest on a Peso 7 year CD. Interest is paid 6 monthly. Rates (12%+) are also available for 1,2,3,4 and 5 year periods. You MUST mention you want the "BANCO CENTRAL CD" as both banks work as a third party on their behalve.

If was looking to play around with $20k in the DR today, I would buy a 1 or 2 bedroom condo in Sosua, being the cheapest place you can find. You can get a nice furnished condo or apartment by the beach for $30,000 to $50,000. “A couple of years ago you could buy one for as low as 18,000 “
Then I would hand it over to an agency for travelers’ bookings, the company would do all the work and you could most likely make 400-500 dollars per week without having to do anything.

Another thing I would do is to find out if those huge Dominican companies are still selling stocks certificates. I know that they used to pay a really nice 15 to even 20% dividend in the past.

For lower risk international bond funds or ETF s denominated in dollars are attractive to many people. Going rate is 6.5%. An advantage is that funds can be withdrawn at short notice - e.g. 1 week

You can always learn how to be a day trader for the stock market or forex. Just as risky as some of the ideas presented here in my opinion. The upside is that you are independent from any physical location, all you need is a pc and an internet connection, and your earning potential in only limited by your knowledge/experience.
