I understand it has been bought by Metro group for even more apartments.

Matilda

Well I hope they dont make more apartments there, because if the area was dead with Capella open imagine now, this definitly is coming to take the last breath to that area, all the apartment are the most of the time closed, and sometimes during the weekend is when you can see more people in the area.

Hope they think smartter and open a new hotel not all inclusive as their market is only for rich people and bring back to life the area that has loose a lot jobs.

Fortunately Hodelpa tooks the Los Marlins Hotel, and I heard also they took the Talanquera property in front of the beach as complement for the new Hodelpa Garden Suits inside Metro Country. They have very good managment and marketing with their properties so I think will bring back some life to the area.

Their webside says that the name of the beach property will be called Emotions.

The real question is what is the future of Juan Dolio as a whole? I don't know why that place has taken off.

Many posters on DR1 are against A1's.
The closing of all the A1's in Juan Dolio to build apartment buildings was the death of the town.
Costa Caribe is the only A1 left there and it is in ill repair. IF they were smart they would invest in improvements. They could be a good option for people wishing to visit Santo Domingo but do not want to stay in the city.

Juan Dolio is 45 minutes from Santo Domingo and costs US$ 50 one-way by taxi. So if you are visiting Santo Domingo and stay in Juan Dolio, add US$ 100 a day to cover taxis. It isn't going to work.

I had a look around Talanquera the other day, the non-beach side has about 500 bedrooms, all completely derelict. Really sad. The beach side building is also in a mess and has horrible tiny concrete balconies, I wish Hodelpa all the luck in the world to turn that place around. If you fancy a good laugh, read the Tripadvisor reviews on Talanquera, I have never seen worse.

I've just had a look at Hodelpa's website and they are saying that Emotions is going to have 260 bedrooms. This means that they are taking over a good chunk of Talanquera, the beachside block only has 66 bedrooms from memory. They are advertising US$ 160 per night per room, not all-inclusive. This is going to require a massive investment, I will be fascinated to see if they can pull this one off. At least this means that Juan Dolio is going to have at least one big hotel.

You can get all-inclusive in Bavaro for the same price or even less now. I don't see the point to go to any beach hotel in DR, if it's not all–inclusive and more than $80 per night.

Im totally agree, If they were smart, with a very good investment Im sure will get back the money soon, its a very big hotel, Costa Caribe has a complete building closed next to the Casino, they should start from there, and continue with other areas and wont be necesary that they close for remodelation.

hate to say it, but all those resorts in juan dolio suck big time! especially the capella and costa caribe. What would be a wise move by investors is creating a room with breakfast only option, like a residence inn, with mid scale local restaurants nearby or on the beach. Sort of like boca chica without the dark environment. There is/was a name brand hotel between the 2 areas, that had a shuttle to the beach, a Hilton, sub category hotel/resort ( los marlins?) pretty good property with a beach shuttle, which is probably the nicest place to stay in the area . Bring that caliber resort, on the beach at a reasonable price, and people will come.
Its a pity that DR has a very good tourism sector, but most people come just for the all inclusive. The Westin in punta cana is one of a few Major resorts that offer room only accommodations , but the pricing of a meal charge "miami" upscale pricing. That 4points in punta cana is good also, with decent dining across the street, but requires a shuttle to the beach.

Is the all inclusive concept, with that infamous Diarrhea that some visitors experience, really such a good deal for profits?
Id rather stay at a comfortable hotel/inn and pay for meals as I go. This non all inc. concept works in many resort areas like aruba, cancun, florida beaches, puerto rico, but not the DR.

as to closure of the capella, adios! no one will miss you.

That must be Hodelpa Garden Suites, as far as they said in their website they invest money in all the rooms there, Its the old los Marlins Hotels inside Metro Country Club.

If this property looks like Hodelpa Colonial Zone then is going to looks really nice inside. Im sure they will do the same with Talanquera, if they sell is as Hodelpa with the actually look of the hotel looks very crapy.

As we all know, some Dominican visitors have their Diarrhea experience right in the resort's swimming pools, but I don't think we have to blame the all-inclusive concept for that.

On another forum, visitors say dominicans are immune to the "runs", because DRs are used to the bacteria! Little they know.

I have my 2 favorite spots on the island, las terrenas and bayahibe
