Heya

What are the differences between the words 'barrio' and 'urbanizacion'?

I get the barrio means neighbourhood and urbanizacion is more of a development, but are there any more subtle differences?

Thanks

Barrio = crowded and mainly poor people
Urbanization = planned neighbourhood, more middle class with less businesses.

It is that simple. Sometimes the planning or at least finishing the streets is not done.

Yes it's not that simple, also; it should be called paraje, seccion rural, or distrito municipal if the location is out of the city limits.
Jurunela, caserio, suburbio,barrancones....
etc,etc.

In a barrio you get lot less sleep than in an urbanizacion!!! The barrio parties and music blasting on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night will make it difficult to get comfortable sleep unless obviously if someone was born and raised in a barrio!!!! Yes there is a difference!!!! In general there are more thugs and lower lifers in a barrio!!! In a barrio more banca de loteria and colmados trying to rip people off of their measley earnings (money). In a barrio more girls are abundant willing to be intimate wth men and/or women for less money easy like a handshake!!!! In a barrio you see good number of younger women with older guys anywhere from at least 5-10 yrs age difference!!! In a barrio greater number of women in their late 30's and 40's having intimate relationships with younger men. In a barrio people are less hygienic and more alcoholics and drug addicts located there. Yes indeed there is a big difference!!!

A ?barrio? is equivalent of the ghettos.
?urbanizacion? on the other hand is the equivalent of a suburb.
