Ok guys, now I am going to swallow my pride and "manhood" and admit that I was WRONG, with a capital W, when I was talking out of my axx saying that the World Baseball Classic, in time, was going to become "nothing more than a joke".
Was I wrong!!.
I still believe that MANY team will not allow SOME of their superstars to play on it and many contracts will be written with a clause not allowing certain players to participate, but even so, this thing (WBC) is getting more and more fan fare by the second!. It's well known that MANY MLB management are putting pressure to some of their player not to play BUT even if MANY big leaguers are not playing on the tournament, there are enough superstars willing to play and represent their countries.
There will be a time when those that decided not to play, will be begging to play in the years to come. How do I know that?, because:
When you have a player like Chipper Jones saying: "If anybody asks me, I'll say this has been the best experience of my life, bar none", people (ball players) WILL take notice.
I guess that, for a second, I forgot how much hispanics and other nationalities LOVE the game of beisbol. It's such a delight to see so many people having fun at the game.
My other delight is that these ball players are doing it for the love of the game since they are not been paid one cent. It's like going back to when you were a kid and all you wanted to do was to win just so you can brag about it.
I see myself following this thing all day long!. Worse, when watching one game, I am tivoing another and also flipping to ESPNews for updates. I am going insane!. It's getting so bad for me that when my g/f wanted to record "The Sopranos" and "Desperate Housewives" at the same time, all I was thinking was: "schit, how in hell am I going to watch the game, how can I Tivo the game now if 2 programs are being recorded at the same time, darn it?.
I still would love for the USA to win. If not, I am hoping for the DR. If not, then I would love Korea to win since they are playing great, great ball.
To me, this is better than the ALL-Stars Game, big time. To me, this is much better than the World Series (well, if my Yankees are not in it). To me, this is better than any playoffs (again, if my Yankees are not in it).
Man, was I wrong. What a moron I was. What was I thinking.
Gotta go now, have to go Tivo a game.
