I'm contemplating a couple of beach days up in Cabarete and would like recommendations regarding the various options for getting there by bus from La Romana. My initial thought is to go via Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata. Heading through the interior of the country is probably a bit short distance-wise but, I suspect, less efficient time-wise.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Why in the world would you go north when there are beautiful beaches east of La Romana where we are in the warm caribbean sea? Yes you'll have to go to SD first, 2 hrs and then about 4 or more to POP.

Excellent question!

1. I thought it would be worth broadening my horizons by getting better acquainted with other areas of the country.

2. Most of the better beaches here in the east seem to be locked up behind overpriced all-inclusive resorts.

Perhaps I'm wrong about #2 and, if so, I'd be open to any suggestions you might have for day trips or a quick weekend getaway.

Thanks!

Dominicus beach is 10 mins from Bayahibe and a new public beach called AnAni 3 mins past Iberostar.

Thanks! Definitely worth checking out.

I posted a couple of pictures above. At Anani you rent a beach chair and if you buy food or drinks the rental amount is refunded at the end of the day.You don't have to rent a chair though and there are plenty of trees around if you need shade.
