can someone explain the differences

ok then what is the difference between su and suyo, both refer to masc. sing. thought i had this all figured out 'til I read Chiri's post. gawd one of these days i'm gonna understand it!

Suyo is placed after the noun. Su foes before it. Suyo is also used when the subject is not specified.
Example:
Es su carro
El carro es suyo.
Question: De quien es aquel carro?
Answer; Tu vez el jevito alla? Es suyo.
I don't know the rule that applies here. Just the practical usage.

If the 'su' in question is second person formal, you could say it is roughly equivalent to 'your' and 'yours'.

It's your car.
The car is yours.

Also works for his/his and her/hers:

It's his car.
The car is his.

It's her car.
The car is hers.

Q- whose car is that?
A - You see that dude over there? It's his.

Any clearer now?
