Cedula for teenager

A teenage friend at 17 will be needing a cedula. He has his birth certificate and nothing else to confirm his status. His mother died when he was very young, no death documents. His father is not named on the birth document. What can be done?

Why not go in one of the offices and ask them what he needs? After all that is where they issue Cedulas.........

A visit was made to the local office. It was very busy. A result of the swamped office was its answers were brief, dancing around our questions. Will have to wait for a slow day?

Now, just want a road guide as what to obtain before next visit.

Go to the JCE with his birth certificate. That´s all!

The rub is in this case the young man's birth certificate mentions only his dead mother. His father has lost or did not have a marriage certificate to verify he is the father. All he has to do is go with son to register for cedula. But, without a supporting document of marriage there is no way to tie himself to his son.

First, the father has to declare at an Oficilía de Estado Civil that the young man is his child. With that, a new birth certificate will be issued with which he can obtain his cédula with the proper surnames (his father's and his mother's).
