Claro or Orange?

I have two phones, one Claro and the other Orange. The service coverage with Claro is far superior, especially when you travel out of the big towns.

However, I use my Orange number when calling overseas as their rates are far better than Claro's.

That might be a decision maker if you need to call home frequently.

Many thanks to all respondees. Reading all the experiences and replies I have bought an quad band unlocked cell 'phone & will be buying a Claro sim card when I go back in January.

I am from the US and travel to DR to visit family. I usually use Orange because signal is not that bad where I live and its a bit cheaper. Claro is a bit more expensive but regardless, the rates are pretty decent and their top up cards offer some good value. I was able to call the US and other people in DR and probably spent RD$1250 or around $35 which is way better than calling on any of the other carriers in the US. Regardless on what company you choose, the credit will expire and they offer really great coverage.
