You don't go to a foreign country and tell people what to do in their own country, they have to figure it out themselves.

You are so right.  Goes for so many things on this board.  Dominicans have to do it for themselves.  And, they do.  And, they will.  Just not how and at the pace some people want.

I remember Lady Bird Johnson's "Beautify America" program, the little trash bags hung on the vet window crans, etc.

It took 10 years to get Americans to refrain from throwing trash out of the window. Today, most couldn't any more throw trash out of the window if they were paid.

It takes a while, but first comes the education of the youngest kids. THEY will correct their parents and older siblings.

Gotta start somewhere...

"It took Americans 10 years"...don't know which Americans you are referring to? Just how did you cobraboy get your answer? And do you know they were Americans or perhaps others?

Dominicans? No they don't and they won't as they state on our forums.

Mofongo is correct. It is just that sometimes it takes a fresh set of ideas.

In Jarabacoa they had a delegation come from Costa Rica to give them ideas on recycling, separation of garbage, uses for plastic...etc. Whether something concrete will come of it, who know but it is a start.

I have no idea what you refer to, but I lived through the "Beautify America" program, as did millions others.

There have been two municipal meetings, and numerous neighborhood meetings.

All the government has to do is put a value on the recycle items and there will be an overnight workforce going around picking up trash to turn into cash.

I was thinking the same thing, then realized that getting money back from any retailer here is not going to happen. What's the story with the big water bottles? Have to pay a deposit when purchased but I have yet to figure out how to get that deposit back.

There is a sort of recycle project working already.

The beer bottles are recycled....

Given that the beer industry is driving this initiative (AE's opening post) there may be hope of progress.

We'll see...........

The naval academy  was cleaning up a small beach along the Malecon this morning with a group ALPLA.
Anyone ever heard of this group?
