Aguaita and jenmar, do you really actually believe that a poor disheveled Haitian can waltz right into the Hard Rock Cafe and be treated the same as a disheveled tourist?  Do you really believe that?  Because I don’t.

A touristy place like the Hardrock Cafe, yeah makes things sound more dramatic. The truth is that anyone can walk into any store like La Sirena and use the bathrooms, and no need to buy anything.
That lady in the video who squatted to take a dump, she looks like anyone who could walk into a local store, if only she had pants on. There are colmados, supermarkets, malls, "plazas" of all sizes.

Read the post where someone says that at a school nearby they sneak in and poop in the classrooms even though the school has a bathroom. Why is that?

RUnning water. That’s why.
Really? Lack of running water is an excuse to take a dump wherever you happen to be standing? No going into the bushes, taking care if bidniz and covering it up with dirt?

Seriously?

White privilege and riunning makes Haitians and other thrid-worlders just crap in the streets?

No it doesnt.
But insinuating every haitian and only haitians "like" taking dumps on the street, does in my book.......

At this very moment, a guy has stopped his car on the side of the road, and is taking a p.iss . Shock and horror !!!!.......... not.

And the point is, the only, yes the only, person I saw defecating in the middle of the road happened to be a drunk...........

Since you are so adamant like that, let me ask you a simple but straightforward question: Have you ever been to Port-Au-Prince (or anywhere else on the other side of the island, for that matter) by chance?

In conclusion, Haitians are a poor, defenseless people, completely incapable of putting together the thought that defecating in public view of everyone is not appropriate, much less hygienic, and, as such, we must accept it and make all excuses possible to justifiy this behavior. Got it *thumbs up* :tired:

JENmar, I’m not denying the agency Haitians individually and as a nation have for themselves. Nor do I want to personalize a discussion with a newer member of the forum. Lots of different opinions here.

Check out the Haiti forum and go back in time. I find a common theme, with which I agree is...

Haitians are their own worst enemy. The Dom rep provides more support to the nation of hait than any other single country and get nothing but cr@p for it.  Dr is at risk of being subsumed by overwhelming immigration.  Dr has every right to determine who enters their territory. Haitian leadership needs to step up.  These are the common themes I see.

Are you Dominican?  Are you equally concerned about doms swindling the USA regarding immigration?

Should the USA stop foreign aid the dr?  So much corruption. Should the USA support that?  Or shoukd we take the same hard line as many doms domtoward Haitians?  Why should thenusa ever admit any Dominican?  We don’t need them. We got enough welfare scammers.

Anyway, I’m glad Your among us and I value your opinion.

I’m just a tourist. I got no skin in this game.

I know you ask these questions specifically to her, but let me give my 50 cents.

Should the USA stop foreign aid the dr?

Yes. Or at the very least reduce it to key areas only.

So much corruption. Should the USA support that?

Nope. Nor should you feel obligated to keep doing so. It's been almost thirty years since the Cold War ended, so there's no need to give this country, or the other ones in the backyard, for that matter, so much leeway in matters like that.

Or shoukd we take the same hard line as many doms domtoward Haitians?

By all means do so. But let me tell you, I have a vested interest in this: I don't want my nation to be severely outnumbered by them anymore like it has been the case ever since the French made the switch from the tobacco plantation to sugar/coffee on their side of the island (circa the 1690's or thereabouts). Yes, I'm at Japanese levels of ethnocentrism on this.

Why should the usa ever admit any Dominican? We don’t need them. We got enough welfare scammers.

.

You shouldn't. In fact, I'm not lying or being facetious when I tell you that you should be more selective in your admission policies, starting with ending chain migration, and birthright citizenship if needed be. You have enough people over there as it is, and the process of assimilation/integration of the immigrants will never end as long as you keep allowing such a neverending stream of newcomers to reach your shores. It prevents them from cutting the proverbial umbilical cord with their former homeland, so to speak.

No to Port-Au-Prince. And lets say no, for legal reasons, to the other side of the island.
Which is hardly pertinent, in my case, anyhow, as the only hatians I encounter, are on this side of the island.
And I am yet to see one defecate in the middle of the road...........

But lets just assume/admit for a moment that its The haitian thing to do ( defecate in the middle of the road ).
Dont you think its more of a consequence of a failed state, rather than a cause ?

This back and forth started because of a poster stating that haitians defecated, on purpose, in the middle of the road. ( i am too lazy to go back and see what poster, and to lazy to work out a multi-quote post ).
So, of course, nobody with any sense would defecate in the middle of the road. And should not.
Then we have 2 videos showing just that. Must be solid proof then.........duuuh.
If I wasnt lazy, I could post a video of a swiss guy running naked in the street hunting Zombies with an axe......... must be an everyday thing in switzerland, right ?

Back to defecating in places that are not socially accepted as proper, ie everything other than a toilet.
If you take a sh.it behind a bush, or in a hole in the ground, or even a toilet connected to hole in the ground ( like a sceptic tank ) it is not a problem if the density of the population is low.
The higher density, the bigger of a problem it becomes.
It is a problem that needs dealing with over the other side of the island ( but it wont be, as we all agree, its a failed state ), but also on this side of the island ( which, selflishly, is much more important to me).
Anybody seriously think that sceptic tanks are emptied in the campo ? No, you just build another.
Anybody seriously think that sceptic tanks actually are built according to any norms ?
Anybody think campos will be getting sewers and water treatment facilities anytime soon ?
Anybody think that anything other than toilet water goes into sceptic tanks ? Think water from washing machines, kitchen water, shower water, water used to wash motorbikes, and so on, and so on...........
Those issues are more important to me, and it aint the haitians fault. Again, selfishly, because I live here, and not there.

You are very right, we should go back to the original purpose of the thread, as in, discussing how and why disingenuous white (Yank/Euro) liberals like Conan O'Brien are pretending that Haiti is something resembling a functional country. Yes, I know, the DR have a lot of problems of its own, but even our own crop of liberals like Miguel Ceara Hatton, grudgingly agree on the fact that the economic distance between Haiti and the DR is larger than the one separating the DR from the US, so that should account for something.

Here is his work if you are interested on his viewpoint: Haití y República Dominicana: divergencia, población y migración/
Haiti and Dominican Republic: divergence, population and migration

Yeah, but, are there enough Swiss guys running naked for enough people to notice and form stereotypes about them because of that?

Agreed. The answer to that would be to enact some sort of Planned Parenthood-type of institution over there, so as to lessen what the Swedish economist Mats Lundahl termed "the tragedy of the commons", as in, the population of a country growing more than its means to sustain it, which is one of the main problems afflicting that country (along with not clearly defined/very restrictive property rights). Of course, liberals would cry foul at this ("wayciss") and instead, push for things to remain at their current status quo, which involve supporting all kinds of NGO's catering to that population on this side of the fence, as well as to push for abortion here.

It is a problem that needs dealing with over the other side of the island ( but it wont be, as we all agree, its a failed state ), but also on this side of the island ( which, selflishly, is much more important to me).

Agreed, sort of. After visiting that part of the island, not only am I anxious for us to remain at the helm here, but also makes me wish selfishly for us to finally get our **** together and start pushing an aggressive developmental agenda there (as hegemons of sorts) to see that part of the island finally get out of its afflicted status.

I'm not disputing any of that, but trust me, the health/hygiene situation there is Fifth World level kind of bad. Not Third, nor Fourth, but FIFTH (as in, deepest stage of hell level) kind of bad, and I seriously don't want to see the kind of epidemics that periodically afflict them on the hurricane season spilling over here.

Wow, 18 pages and 178 posts...... Jeez.

He's a comedian... he's just going for some laughs via cheap shots and distortions. It's what comedians do, and it's not intended to be factual or accurate.

I found it mildly entertaining. Nothing more or less.

The reality is if not McDonald's, a supermarket, a church, a restaurant, you can always ask a facility if they would let you use their facilities. At least make the attempt, which these Haitians are not, no matter the excuses the apologists (not you) on here make for them.

Without going back and re reading this whole thread , has anyone mentioned that some of these People who grew up in the " Country" probably DO NOT EVEN KNOW HOW TO USE INDOOR PLUMBING..

I have actually MET such people , in different countries in fact.. they do have an outhouse, but would not even be comfortable using an INDOOR Krapper , even if you showed them how.
Some things are just too late to learn at a certain stage of your life..

So given the extremely POOR Living conditions in Haiti.. I would not be surprised of a majority of the population has even SEEN indoor plumbing , much less know how to use it .
just curious if no one has even touched on that yet ..
