It's called syconium. The huge tree looks somewhat like banyan and rubber and has wines. It looks reddish and similar appearance to uvas de playa. Tasted it once when i was a kid and ended up with bad stomach. Not edible but also there is a lot of worms in side. Not harmful.

We have jagua trees, to me the juice is undrinkable, but wow, Dominicans fight over the fruit. I tried adding sugar, still YUCK.
