I think ... me.... that those who appear to live here will be/are the targets

If you define them as ‘tourists’....they have no problem

Define a tourist .....

Then ask about illegal residents.... or quasi residents
I suggest that’s the crux of it
let it go ......

I was first fingerprinted at SDQ OVER a year ago with many overstays and have left and returned several times since, most recently from Spain last week. What happened? Buenas dias senor pasa buenas dias!

Claro ... the bottom line here is the country wants the money the overstayers bring....

But William you clearly seem to assert that "we all" (not me) understand the D.R. Gov is fine with snow birds but have a problem with what you label as "Chronic overstayers"? I just asked for some support of where this assertion comes from ? I contend that it comes from the same place that espouses to the opinion that soon all overstayers will soon be declined re-entry to the DR when trying to return.
I can give you the source of both. It is DR1, on this thread and others like it.

Gary
it my OPINION....

I got it reinforced y'day at Migracion talking to lawyers while waiting for my wife's renewal...

It's a mood/opinion.... not an assertion...
sorry if you were misled

Too wry. We must hit the links one morning, followed by lunch.

I quit golf a while back... too much traveling to hold my group together.
Used to play a lot....

Plus no Playa Grande down the street any more
Closed again for reconstruction.....about the 3rd time
closed more than open

Come on William, you know that the opinion of one of those lawyers and 25 pesos will get you..... a concho ride (soon going up to 30 pesos)

Hahaha

Are we a bit jaded this morning Gary....

The lawyer in question had nothing to gain or lose .... we were just talking

But I agree.... they are at a loss as much as anybody.

It’s like pin the tail on the donkey

An immigration lawyer with nothing to gain from spreading the word that immigration is going to be cracking down on overstayers ?? It's a bit early to hit the sauce William.
And jaded William, regarding lawyers, guilty - morning, noon and night!

Was a casual conversation... and complaining about the system in general

I think we should alter the nomenclature.....

Overstayers fall into at least two categories....
Tourists & Interlopers..... creo yo

A deliberate law dodger (like draft dodger) might be in the cross hairs
our friendly tourists seem to me to be not that affected..

All my own conjecture here... and I qualify all future and past posts in this regard

I will report 'definite' findings.... if I can find any !!!

hahaha

I know people that have had their fingerprints taken, overstayed many months and returned with no problems.

Overstayed as a tourist on a tourist card.......not travel here and overstay with a VISA. I think that is where confusion comes in.

Facebook? Add to that all the other social neworking sites and probably another 5-6 Dominican expat web forums. I've even seen warnings on Trip Advisor!

Can you share the links to other websites discussing this.....

I spoke to Migracion at Puerto Plata today while working on residency renewal.

I won't say what they told me. No need to since everyone will believe what they want to believe.

That tourists were not a problem....

Call the problem a poacher, squatter, interloper...

I have tried to be clear....
People who want to live here but not regularize, not conform to the rules of the land...

No delicate way to put it.

I sent you a PM. Aside from some people not believing what I heard at Migracion, I did not have the chance to get every question answered, so there are a few missing details. Good luck.

Sorry, but I do not belong to nor follow any of those forums. I just came across them when Googling this topic. They had nothing new to add. Sounded just like this one. Everyone on the very same merry-go-round.

You will not say what they told you, but you will continue to make your OWN personal assertions. Seriously, this is beyond ridiculous.
