All that I can say is that either the people responding so far are either really uninformed, or else you are hanging out with the wrong crowd or in the wrong batey in the DR. Anna started it, and she should be the first one with a bar of soap in her mouth if she honestly knew what she was saying. Shame on her.

I know the moderator knows exactly what is being said, but he is only confirming what was previously a suspicion.

I am out of here.

When I am in a household...............

where Spanish is spoken and am asked if I would like
something to drink I normally ask for "un chin" of
a beverage. Right away they get the idea I spend/
have spent much of my time with Domincans.
My wife also adds "mota". Especially in reference to
me. Not Manny Mota, but not worth anything.
(La mota es la mitad de un chele)

Desde el tiempo cuando cuca bailaba,

Moca

BTW When I say say chin in a Dominican household
I often end up with a large glass anyway. lol

Anyone who would insult a sweetheart like you, Anna, is only trying to cause sh*t...don't take it to heart...he's only looking to stir the pot!

Joseito, I swear on my life I used to live across that same bar in el Ensanche Espaillat (calle 14). Is that the same one? Jesus, guy, you and I met in another life!

MamIndie...

You know, babe, I'm still looking for that angel in white...are you the diablo's daughter, too?

Some day soon, I'll be on my way to Miami, ef el ai, and you'll be one of the colored girls. Deal?

Back on t?pico.

But here's an explanation I hope it won't offend:

Bill is to William as Pepe is to Jos?.

"Hacer pip?" is Dominican for "orinar" or urinate. It is not offensive, GC.
A mother will ask her kid, "ya hiciste pip??"

Adults do not "hacen pip?", they "mean", from the verbo "mear."

Yo meo
Tu meas
El mea
Ella mea
Ellos/ellas/Uds. mean
Nosotros meamos
Vosotros meais

Now it gets complicated, JJ. Check this out:

While "mear" is slang for "orinar", it is still too formal.
"Voy a mear" just doesn't cut it with us low-class people. Instead it's more like, "bo? mi?." If a person is so formal as to pronounce the 'v' as in "voy", then she most likely would use the word "orinar." There are some wannabes that would still say "boy a orinar." That's akin to a redneck going to a beauty parlor to get his mullet shaped.

Con mucho amor y cari?o para todos,

-Jose?to

Would that be acceptable, DialectoMaster? Dar del cuerpo sounds like it should mean taking a great, big crap!

I don't really use this lenguaje, entiendes. Na ma me gu'ta saver lo que dicen la gente. Y pa bufearme. Tu sabes.

And hey, arenas, what's this "juma" business? I am Jane de Juma, as in, that's my married name. Or is it the female equiv. of "darse un jumo", a term with which I am very well acquainted. :0

Please conjugate this verb...

Jane J., let's not forget a cuero's favorite verbo, el verbo dimicular.

(Joseito, please be kind enough to conjugate that verb for JJ.)

Thanks,
Indie
